Access to tuition scholarships offered by the International Scholar Laureate Program (ISLP) is a membership benefit of Phi Theta Kappa. For the last eight years, Phi Theta Kappa has partnered with the ISLP – through its corporation, Envision – to offer study abroad opportunities to our members. Through this partnership, between 200 and 300 PTK members travel annually to countries such as South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and China to gain valuable international perspective in their chosen career field. Typically, college credit is not granted for ISLP participation. However, program feedback is extremely positive each year. For details about ISLP programs, including FAQs, please visit the ISLP’s website: http://www.scholarlaureate.org/.
Envision and ISLP have established a scholarship fund exclusively for Phi Theta Kappans. They administer the awards, but the number of scholarships awarded varies per year. Students must fund the program themselves, so we strongly encourage you to fundraise in your community to make the trip possible. In addition to local fundraising, the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship Program (http://www.iie.org/Programs/Gilman-Scholarship-Program) is open to U.S. citizen undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study and intern abroad programs worldwide.
We encourage you to apply early, as scholarship funds are limited and demand is extremely high. Applications should be made directly through the ISLP website: http://scholarlaureate.org. Please, contact the ISLP directly if you have any questions about this process. The ISLP Office of Admissions may be reached Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. EST; Phone: (800) 778-0164; Email: admissions@scholarlaureate.org.
